El vicepresidente de Nicaragua desestima la denuncia por depredación de bosque
Managua El vicepresidente de Nicaragua, Omar Hallesleven, aseguró hoy que un bosque ubicado en el cerro Mokorón, en la zona ur <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> bana de Managua, se encuentra intacto gracias al cuido del Ejército de Nicaragua, en respuesta a denuncias de destrucción de una organización ambientalista.
"El Mokorón existe porque el Ejército de Nicaragua lo ha mantenido, si no, no existiera", dijo a periodistas Hallesleven, exjefe del Ejército de Nicaragua (2005-2010).
El Mokorón es un cerro cubierto por 17 hectáreas de bosque tropical seco, según el Centro Humboldt, dedicado a la protección del medio ambiente.
Pobladores de una colonia vecina del cerro y el Centro Humboldt denunciaron la semana pasada ante la ProcuradurÃa General que el Ejército de Nicaragua construye, o al menos permite, la edificación de un muro de 5.000 metros de longitud que rodea el bosque.
Los denunciantes creen que existe un proyecto de urbanización que sustituirá el bosque, que ha estado bajo la administración del Ejército de Nicaragua desde la década de 1980.
"No puedo decir con certe <a href={url}>{keyword}</a>za a qué obedece el muro, sà creo que debe ser parte de la protección del cerro", comentó el vicepresidente.
El Centro Humboldt sostiene que si el sitio es urbanizado, Managua perderÃa capacidad de recarga hÃdrica, pero también existe la posibilidad de un deslizamiento de tierra que produzca un desastre sobre unas 300 casas en la colonia Miguel Bonilla y la Universidad Autónoma de Nicara <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> gua (UNAN).
En la Asamblea Nacional fue presentado hace casi cinco años un proyecto de ley que declara al cerro Mokorón como un área protegida, pero los legisladores aún no lo han discutido.

Serxho Guraleci, a senior nose tackle for the Wayne State football team this past season, died while working out Monday morning in Macomb County. He was 22. Wayne State head coach Paul Winters said Guraleci was with a group of football players training for an upcoming pro football day. He received a call that Guraleci was taken to the hospital. “A little bit later I got a phone call saying he had passed away,” Winters said. “I feel most for his family. He’s such an engaging young man, to lose somebody like that in your close family, I can’t even imagine. And then I feel for our kids because they lose him. He was — our players loved Serx.” Guraleci (6 feet and 308 pounds) started in 25 of 48 games at Wayne State and was named second-team All-GLIAC as a senior. Rick Bye, Guraleci’s former high school football coach at Sterling Heights Stevenson, was stunned by the news. “He was just a big, strong kid,” Bye said. “Always had a smile on his face.” Bye said Guraleci, who was from Albania, initially struggled in the ninth grade and had to repeat that level. He worked hard to improve his academics and his English over the next few years. Although Guraleci no longer had eligibility in his senior year of high school, Bye said he continued to improve and was recruited by Wayne State. As a junior, Guraleci helped the Warriors reach the NCAA Division II championship game for the first time in school history. “He was so happy about being able to go play in that national championship game,” Bye said. “It was probably the highlight of his career. “Just a sad, sad story, because he’s such a great kid. We’re all kind of stunned. I can remember the junior high administrators saying he’s just a big puppy dog and wants to make sure he does everything right.” Guraleci — who was pursuing a degree in kinesiology and secondary education at Wayne State — played in 10 games this season and had career highs in total tackles (41), tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (1.5). Winters might have been the strongest player on the team.
